I saw the documentary Fed Up this week and I was really shaken by realization that our own FDA is very much responsible for the obesity problem of our children (and adults) today.
Billed as, “the film the food industry doesn’t want you to see”, I left thinking that our government… our PRESIDENT, wouldn’t want you to see it. I’m appalled at how they lay down with the food giants to manipulate our children into eating fatal amounts of HIGHLY ADDICTIVE forms of sugar disguised as healthy food.
This film shows the struggle of children trying to follow the advice (propaganda) of the First Lady’s “Let’s Move” campaign, only to feel more and more defeated, and fall into further life-threatening obesity.
One of the many revelations of this documentary is the fact that we’ve been told for years that our weight is the individual’s own fault – too many calories taken in and too lazy to exercise, and this is absolutely masking the real enemy here: Food corporations and their lobbyists that own Washington DC.
For instance, these lobbyists pushed our government into promoting the “low fat” food craze which acted as a Trojan Horse to pump up the sugar ratios in nearly every processed food – which make up more than 80% of the products in the average supermarket. Also know that, these same lobbyists “convinced” (bought) the FDA to not include the USRDA (US Recommended Daily Amount) for sugar on nutrition labels.
They also “convinced” our government to declare pizza as a vegetable in our children’s school cafeterias.
I strongly encourage everyone to see this movie. This isn’t about politics. There won’t be any politics to discuss if we allow ourselves to be financially crippled with the medical crisis that we’re facing. But our own apathy is to blame as we don’t hold our government officials accountable for their bowing to lobbyists. Truth is, I don’t know how lobbying, in today’s sense of the word, is even legal today.
Oh wait… apathy.
